Facebook parent Meta Platforms has announced a subscription service, called Meta Verified. The paid subscription service will allow users to verify their accounts using a government ID and get a blue badge. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the service. “This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services,” Zuckerberg wrote in a statement posted to his Facebook account. This is Facebook’s first ever subscription service
What all Meta Verified offers
The Meta Verified subscription service will offer the verified blue badge to users for their Instagram as well as Facebook account. This means that users will be able to get both their Facebook and Instagram accounts verified under this service. Meta Verified will offer users extra protection against impersonation. Users will also get direct access to customer support. Other perks include increased visibility in search, Verified subscribers with 100 free stars, a digital currency they can use to tip creators on Facebook. The subscription also comes with access to exclusive stickers for use in Stories and Reels.
How can users get Meta Verified
Meta Verified will allow users to verify their accounts using a government ID and get a blue badge. Meta will also require that potential subscribers share a government-issued ID that matches the profile name and photo on their Facebook or Instagram account. Once a user is verified, he/she can’t change their profile name, username, date of birth or photo without going through the verification process again.
What is the price of Meta Verified
The Meta Verified is priced at $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 monthly on Apple‘s iOS system.
Where all Meta Verified is rolling out
Meta Verified will be rolled out in Australia and New Zealand soon. The service is not yet available to businesses. Facebook said that users who are over the age of 18 will be allowed to subscribe.
What happens to accounts that are already verified
Accounts that were verified before today’s announcement (February 19) due to their notability will remain verified.
